The duty of a professional is to serve clients. However, when individuals contract with insurance companies there is no negotiation. Insurance companies send a message from the start that consumers are merely customers, not clients. After a loss the insurers continue to dictate the terms of the claim and often refuse to pay money obviously owed and often refuse to even return phone calls. Claims workers are trained to save the insurance company as much money as possible. The law requires insurers to treat consumers fairly, to investigate fully and promptly and to inform the consumers of claim status and coverage. The law requires an insurer to share all investigative material with its insurance customers. There are laws and rules which allow an informed attorney to assist a client in navigating the treacherous pathways towards claim resolution. At my office we enjoy serving clients and getting insurance companies to treat you right.
